Site Leaders play a vital role in making The Big Event a success. We're looking for students with prior service experience who are ready to step up, finalize project details with host sites, and help volunteers have a meaningful day. If you’re ready to lead and make an impact, we want to hear from you!

Students are the heart of The Big Event! Before registering, please be sure to review the Assumption of Risk Form.

Registration Info:

  • SIU Login Required: You may be prompted to log in with your SIU email address and password before accessing the form.
  • Under 18? If you're an SIU student under the age of 18, please follow these special registration instructions below.
  • Group Registration: Volunteering with a student organization, department, or group? Be sure to include your group name on the form. Each participant must submit their own registration form.
  • Project Selection: After completing your registration, you’ll receive an email within 7–10 days to select your preferred service project. Spots are limited, so register early for the best availability!

Volunteers Under 18

If you’re younger than 18, you and your legal guardian(s) must read and complete the Assumption of Risk Form before registering.

To Participate:

  • Print the form, sign it, and have your legal guardian(s) sign it as well.
  • Submit the signed form to thebigevent@siu.edu no later than March 17.
  • You will not be eligible to participate until your form has been received, reviewed, and approved.

Additional Notes:

  • SIU Login Required: You may need to log in with your SIU email and password to access the form.
  • Group Registration: If you're part of a group, be sure to include that info on your form. All group members must register individually.
  • Project Selection: Expect an email within 7–10 days of registration with your project selection options. Space is limited, register early!

SIU faculty and staff are invited to participate in The Big Event: A Saluki Day of Service. Before completing the form, please review the Assumption of Risk Form.

  • Under 18? Faculty or staff under age 18 should follow these instructions to register.
  • Group Participation: Want to volunteer as a group (e.g., with your department or office)? Be sure to include your group name in the form. Each member must still submit their own form.
  • Project Selection: Within 7–10 days of registering, you’ll receive an email to choose your preferred service project. Spots are limited—register early for the best options!
